ROOTS IN THE PAST In 1897 Marcel Berger invents LAMPE BERGER While seeking a process for disinfecting hospital rooms, Marcel Berger, a renowned pharmacist, tested the effects of high temperature catalytic combustion of an alcoholic compound. The results were astonishing. The proliferation of bacteria in the air immediately decreased and unpleasant medicinal smells and tobacco smoke were destroyed. Satisfied with these results, Berger had no idea that his invention would revolutionize the world of interior ambience. A flagship of French heritage BERGER LAMPS soon become indispensible household objects. During the 1930's and 40's, they made their way into living rooms around the world. Made of Limoges porcelain, china, Baccarat crystal or signed Galle, Lalique, or Daum, they graced the most prestigious interiors, becoming one of the best ambassadors for the French way of life. Actor Jean Cocteau and designer Gabrielle Chanel were only two of the rich and famous who were fans of LAMPES BERGER. They brought the product into the realm of the "collectible". In fact, numerous collectors worldwide have formed a collector's guild which searches for original and rare models of LAMPES BERGER. |
